Rhyl Sands, David Cox, 1855
This card features the painting by David Cox, who began making regular visits to north Wales after settling near Birmingham in 1841. Rhyl lay en route to his favourite destination, Betws-y-Coed. Primarily a watercolourist, Cox only took up oil painting seriously around 1840. 'Rhyl Sands' shows him working with total mastery and in a manner that is unique in British landscape painting of the 1850s.
