BrummyMummyof2’s Top Shop Picks
Award-winning blogger, Emma Conway aka BrummyMummyof2 and her kids recently visited Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum for a BIG adventure. As well as enjoying MiniBrum, the Science Garden and learning loads in the brand new Our Changing Planet gallery, they visited Thinktank’s fab new shop.
From space to science, animals to Birmingham inspired gifts, the new Thinktank shop offers a super range of products chosen to reflect the museum’s collections and the fun, family-friendly museum that it is. So, what did the BrummyMummyof2 gang pick as mementos of their visit?
Mum Emma is a proud Brummie through and through and so it’s no surprise she made a beeline for our Birmingham Colour Palette mug. Featuring gloriously named colours such as Sabbath Black, Bull Bronze and Mr Egg Yellow, the Birmingham Colour Palette mug designed by local artist Stacey Barnfield pays homage to the city’s fabulous heritage.
After being inspired by the new Our Changing Planet gallery on level 2 of the museum, Emma’s son chose a cuddly turtle made from 100% recycled plastic. Using recyclable bottles and packaging, the plastic is sorted, cleaned and shredded into pellets, then melted and spun into threads to make the super cuddly turtle.
Little People Big Dreams: Frida Kahlo was picked out by her daughter who loves to read. Artist, Frida Kahlo’s story is an inspiration for kids - she was in a terrible accident when she was a teenager which changed her life forever. Unable to walk she began painting from her bed. Her self-portraits, her passion for life and instinct for survival make her one of the most famous artists of the 20th century.
Finally, husband Stephen is a big kid at heart and picked up a giant glider – perfect for hours of flying fun outdoors. The glider comes in several parts which are easy to put together.
