Ford Madox Brown: The Last of England
The Last of England by Ford Madox Brown, 1852-1855.
A man and a woman sit side by side in a roundel holding each other's hands. They are sitting on a boat called Eldorado. She holds a baby in her left arm, its hand can be seen through a gap in her shawl. They are protected from the wind and spray by an umbrella held by the man. Behind them is a variety of figures including a little girl eating an apple and a man in a top hat shaking his fist. There is also a boy climbing into a lifeboat. In the background to the right is the sea, white cliffs and another boat.
